Newsletter 10 September

Water Sports Weekend, Youth Meeting and IBO

Dear reader,

You have found your way to this week's newsletter, which is filled with great pictures and stories from efterskole life at Ranum. Each week we put together overview of the week, so you can keep up with life at Ranum.

This week we challenged local football club, enjoyed Water- Sports Weekend, worked with exciting SDG projects and sustainable clothing production, had a reunion day in Næsby, went on a canoe trip with the adventure team and took part in Youth Assembly in Copehangen.

If you are a new reader, warm welcome and thank you for reading.

Water Sports Weekend

Our sailing teacher Andreas Latz took the students out on the water this weekend. There was sailing, SUP and windsurfing in Rønbjerg, surfing in Cold Hawaii, wakeboarding in Rønbjerg and a lot of fun all around.

And of course there was a race where the Mexican sailing team took the top spot on the podium.

IBO: "SDGs, OSO and building a bridge between"

The 10th grade has had the IBO (Innovation-Building-Object) this week, and it has come up with a lot of exciting tasks. The projects have focused on sustainable development and the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which are already part of the curriculum at Ranum - especially when it comes to profile and culture subjects.

We'll be back next week with an update on how things are going with the IBO here at Ranum.

In Valbyparken for the Youth assembly

With the activity team "Change the world" we went to the big democracy festival "Ungdommens Folkemøde" in Copenhagen on Wednesday and Thursday and met a lot of young people who are changing the world in many different ways.

"We met youth politicians from across the political spectrum, climate activists, LGBTQ+ young people telling their own stories, watched political rap debates and spoke to volunteers from a host of organisations working on issues ranging from human rights to gambling addiction."

During the next few weeks, the students will work on transforming the many impressions and inspirations from this day into a democracy event here at school.

Ranum Efterskole team VS the local club

The football team has been busy with matches during the week. The result... We'll take that up another day.

But the energy and spirits have been high before, during and after the games, and the team has played a lot - plus it's been fun playing against other local clubs.

Adventure

The Adventure team spent the afternoon exploring Vilsted Lake by canoe 🛶 We had ideal conditions - 25 degrees and. no wind🌞 From Vilsted Lake we paddled up Bjørnsholm river and ended the trip in the fjord, where there was time for a nice swim🏊

"Wear your linen"

The agenda at Fashion & Sustainability is to create sustainability in the fashion world - in our own backyard. Students learn how to upcycle and reuse clothes, and of course they have a lot of creative ideas and suggestions on how fashion should look in the future.

On Thursday we had a visit from Stine from Atter, who also makes a virtue of contributing to a more sustainable clothing production. She came with her clothing patterns and a mission to challenge the clothing industry.

"My decision not to buy fast fashion, but at the same time have a desire to dress special, gave birth to the idea of ATTER; clothes made from discarded bedding. It meets my requirements for reuse, responsible production and style. It's handmade, made in decent conditions, not transported thousands of miles and each garment is unique," she says

Virtual guided tour

Chances are that one of you has been on a virtual run tour, but you may not even be aware of the phenomenon yet. That's why we're telling you about it here, because maybe you know someone who'd like to join in.

As we couldn't welcome interested families for physical tours, we decided to organise virtual tours. We are doing this again, so please help us spread the word so that everyone (around the world) can see and experience Ranum.

The registration link can be found here: Virtual Guided Tour, 16th September

Evening song at the Tree of Life

You can't help but warm your heart when you feel the energy the students have in this video. It's the best tradition the students have created

School Year 2019/20 Reunion Day

This weekend, more than 300 former students will come to Ranum and Næsby to meet and reminisce about efterskole life. On Saturday evening there will be a party, which will be organised by the parents' council for the year

Ranum Efterskole Open Day is 26th of September

Ranum Efterskoles Open Day is just around the corner, and I'm sure many of you reading this know what it's all about. For the first time, the roles are reversed, as the students get to proudly show off the school to all the interested young people who visit Ranum on the day. It's an important day for all of us at Ranum, and the students are the best ambassadors we can possibly imagine. That's why the current students give guided tours around the school and tell about efterskole life, as now they are the experts and can answer questions from those considering a year at an efterskole.

If you know a young person who deserves an unforgettable year at Ranum efterskole, please send them to this page: https://www.ranumefterskole.dk/efterskolernesdag/
