Colour Party, Housecup, Efterskoleliv and Profilfagsdag

Dear reader,

Ranum Efterskole College has for the past 2 weeks had the pleasure of year 20. Among other things, they have been to the Colour Party, Housecup and the first lessons. The students have had more than the opportunity to live in the moment, as they were mobile-free until Wednesday morning. The profile subjects also got off to a terrific start with Profile Subject Day on Saturday, and the students are already looking forward to the P1 journeys in their respective subjects.

Read much more about what week 2 here at Ranum Efterskole College has had to offer in this week's newsletter. Also, don't forget to check out our "What's Happening" and "The Headmaster's Column", which contains both practical information and reflections on the 1TP5 year so far.

Very good reading.

Colour Party

Every year, the students at Ranum Efterskole College bring out their most colourful clothes for the iconic Colour Party. Each contact group is assigned an individual colour, which they wear and decorate their tables with. Diversity shines

The traditional Colour Party starts off strong with a photo shoot of the contact groups, while students can smile at each other's clothing choices. Then the party moves to the hall for a delicious dinner and entertainment.

The party also included colourful face painting and disco around the tree of life in the schoolyard.

House Cup

At Housecup, Kærhuset, Seminariehuset + Prien and Ranumhus compete against each other in a number of disciplines. The competitors compete in everything from long jump and highest ollie on a skateboard to who can eat the most hotdogs in time. Luckily, the weather was in our favour and it turned out to be a fantastic Danish summer day.

And who will win the first Housecup of the year? Well, that will be revealed at the community gathering on Monday. Many more pictures from the Housecup to come - so be sure to follow us on our social media.

An ordinary evening in Kær

The days at Ranum Efterskole College always end with cosy evening activities. In Kærhuset this week, the activities included playing volleyball and table football, roller skating through the streets and socialising in the rooms.

Profile Subject Day

See some photos from the Profile Day on Saturday below - what a great day! The photos are from sailing, visual design & ceramics, adventure and basketball.

Sailing and smiles

Lots of exciting sailing and smiles on Saturday. Good start for P1 sailors. A lot to learn before sailing on big boats in Croatia.

Visual design x ceramics

The profile subject Visual Design x Ceramics sits around the table, carefully working with their fine home-made ceramics.

Adventure on the road

P1 Adventure on the road on Saturday, a 15 km hike around the southern part of Vilsted Lake. Hot cocoa during lunch break is always a hit!

Basketball training

Lots of exercises and technique training on Saturday, and also time for a bit of combat.

Canoeing at sunset

A fantastic Sunday with a great canoe trip at the end. Beautiful weather with smiling faces

World Cooking

World Cooking started with an easy introduction to the kitchens and American Chocolate Chip Cookies

Mum and Dad: SMS! (send more candy)

We got our mobile phones back on Wednesday and it feels a bit nice. But at the same time, we also learnt how great a start we've had without it! We have had fun, talked, looked at each other, made new friends and started to feel at home at Ranum Efterskole College.

Now the mobiles are back - but luckily Søren Hebsgaard helped us reflect on this experience so we can have much more fun this year!

On Saturday 9 September, we're heading to DropZone Denmark, where you can come out and try your hand at a tandem jump! You can see how the day goes right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8vN04gUK1o

Note: self-payment of DKK 2100 (normal price: DKK 3500)

Headmaster's column

We're well on the other side of an amazing intro period. The communities in the houses, subjects and profile subject teams are slowly forming and we're all learning new names every day.
The colour party on Friday and a very active weekend with both profile subject day and House Cup was a great success with great support and fighting spirit. It seems that the students really want to efterskolelive and each other 110%.

Unfortunately, 4 students have been sent home after taking a narcotic drug. It is very early in the school year, but positive that other students clearly showed that they will not accept this serious breach of community rules.
Unfortunately, there has also been an organised theft of MTB bikes, and 11 students' bikes disappeared one night over the weekend. The police are involved, but the families must report it themselves to the police and insurance company.

Mobiles are now part of the community, and we now need to find a balance where the mobile is the perfect communication assistant while not disrupting communities.
It was a really good idea that the mobile phones were completely gone for the first 12 days, according to a student poll conducted by journalist and lecturer Søren Hebsgaard in his lecture on multitasking and screen habits. And it's a good idea to practise healthy screen habits so that you have control over mobile phone use and "time wasting". Therefore, there will be 4 mobile-free periods during the school year, which will be determined in consultation with the student council.

We are now looking into the first long weekend and most students are going home with backpacks full of stories from 2 intense start-up weeks and many new friendships. They don't have to take their laundry home with them, as all students have been given a DKK 120 deposit on their key chip so they have 6 wash/dry times in their own house.

All students are also given a Ranum drinking bottle, which they must write their name on and which can be filled at the cold water taps in the corridors and houses.
On Sunday, we look forward to seeing everyone back after 6pm and it is important to remember that there is no dinner at the school. We hope that after the weekend, students will bring personal and cosy things to their rooms so that the efterskole atmosphere can spread even more.

Mvh
