Celebrate Christmas and New Year with Full Host!

Our Full Host students have celebrated Christmas and New Year together in Estonia's beautiful white landscapes and the historic capital Tallinn. Thank you to the parents who let us borrow the beautiful students during their holiday. They have had some fantastic days of cross-country skiing, downhill skiing and visiting a Siberian husky kennel. The students have done so well on skis and we are so proud of the progress the beginners have made on these days. Christmas Eve was held with a big Christmas dinner, the Danish parcel game and dancing around the Christmas tree in the forest.

The students explored the old city of Tallinn, where they walked on the city wall, followed by hot chocolate and cake for their stomachs. Then they got their skates on their feet on the slippery ice at Frihedspladsen.

On the last day, New Year's Eve was held in Tallinn with delicious food on the table and exciting entertainment that the students had the opportunity to participate in. On 1 January, the Full Host students left early for Ranum after a fantastic Christmas holiday spent in each other's company.

Preparing for the Cultural Journeys

The white snow is utilised by the cultural subject Nepal - High Trek HimalayaThe students are training for this year's expedition in the beautiful cultures and unique nature that exist in the Himalayas. On their Cultural Subject Journey, they will complete a tough physical trek in high mountains. We can't wait to follow the Cultural Subject Journeys from home!

Bread for birds in Art & Design

In Art & Design, students created small motivational quotes out of bread that were later given to the birds. It worked because before they had finished their masterpieces, the birds were already eating the quotes!

Headmaster's column

"Happy New Year!" and "Happy New Year" - have filled the school's corridors since Tuesday, when the Christmas holidays ended and over 80 % of the students managed to arrive despite the alarming prospect of a snowstorm. The Christmas and New Year break has been good for the students, and we can feel that the batteries are recharged for a new half-year. This week we started with an alternative programme because it was not possible to have normal lessons when many of the teachers could not come to work due to the snowstorm. The students worked independently on cultural differences and similarities in relation to their upcoming Cultural Journey and in the afternoon watched the Australian documentary "2040", In the film, a young father travels the world to document the solutions that already exist to deal with the world's challenges in energy, food and population growth etc. He presents a more constructive view of the world's challenges than the image presented in the media of the world's future. We hope that the students on their cultural trips are inspired to dare to engage in dialogue with local young people or organisations about how they see their country's challenges and future opportunities.

This weekend is Casino weekend and in the best "Ranum Style" it will be a weekend that will be full throttle at the tables until the late hours of the night. In the coming week, we will be following the Ministry of Education's end-of-term exams, so that the students get as much real-life experience as possible with the exam forms before the summer begins in earnest. From Friday, the cultural studies trips start and over the weekend, more than 570 students and teachers will be travelling to 19 countries to meet the local culture in the meeting with young people, schools, orphanages, friendship families and companies. It's the world's best classroom where weeks of preparation meet the real world. For many of the students, the cultural journey is an important milestone in life and in becoming more courageous and resilient for adulthood.

Finally, it is with sadness that I must announce that one of Ranum town's greatest personalities, teacher Erik Knudsen, has passed away. Erik was one of the founders of Ranum Efterskole and later Ranum Multikulturhus, where he was a member of the board and later an honorary member of both organisations. Erik participated as a volunteer on several of efterskolen's trips and, at the age of 70, travelled to Nepal to visit the twinning school. In recognition of Erik's great efforts for Ranum and efterskolen, we named the square between efterskolen and the Multicultural Centre "Erik Knudsen's Square". Honouring Erik Knudsen's memory.

Happy weekend to you all!

Olav Storm.
