Liver cake, Green fingers and corona tanks

Dear reader,

It is now six weeks since the students left for home, and the new everyday life for students, parents, teachers and all other staff at Ranum has settled in. It is not with our good will that the new routines are gaining ground, but it is necessary in order to move forward.

We talk enough about corona in our everyday lives, so from here on out the newsletter is about everything but. Almost anyway. Let's take a look at this week's stories.

First: A big Huraaa(num)!

The after-school teenager turns 16

Ranum is a teenager in the after-school world, but after 16 years of focusing on values like diversity and community you know something anyway about being an afterschool.

In 2004, 86 excited and courageous students started, along with a group of teachers who were at least as excited. In fact, some teachers are still here. Already then, the vision of nature sports and imagination was a big part of the DNA, and the dream and travelling the world soon became a reality. Everyone lived in the Kærhuset, and that's where it all started, with a groundbreaking ceremony between the two buildings, joined by a large glass partition. Ranum Efterskole was born.

We celebrated that day yesterday, when staff working on various projects at the school gathered for a cake and a few words of wisdom.

The beautiful Livstress cake was baked by Tanja, the school's pastry chef and baker, and before we boarded it we had a few photos taken, which you can see here.

It's funny, by the way, that many of our current students are the same age as the afterschool. And like the students, the school is also evolving and exploring new sides of itself.

Project Green fingers

One of the places being worked through at the moment is the garden at Ranumhus. Here, Project Green Fingers has really got going, ploughing the soil, making new cages for the animals and tidying up the greenhouse. It will be a mecca of good, sustainable produce when it all bursts forth.

Results of Namibia work

Earlier this week, our partner N/a'an ku sê a video showing the results of the work done by the Namibia team on the cultural studies trip in January. Things have picked up, and the message from there was: "Max's mega troop has moved into a massive new camp. Decked out with play frames to delight any primate, our cheeky chacmas are loving life. Thank you Ranum Efterskole College for your construction efforts."

What can you do at home?

Here's a story that might be a bit about corona after all. In social studies they have made a video with suggestions for what to do when you are at home. There are some fun suggestions, so watch below.

Thoughts on corona

There are a lot of thoughts going through our students' heads and it can be hard to keep track of what's going on. Read here how two students experience home detention.

The best year of our lives - Liva

My-after-school-thoughts - Marie

Those are the stories for this week. Keep your spirits up - once again.

Have a great weekend
