The trip
We would like to travel to Berlin in October.
We hope to visit fashion and design related places such as the Museum of Decorative Arts.
In addition, we'll be in the neighbourhoods of Prenzlauer Berg, Kreuzberg and Mitte, where there will also be great opportunities for second-hand shopping and getting inspired by the special vibe of Berlin.
We will participate in workshops, for example at local design studios, where students can try their hand at designing or redesigning clothes with a focus on sustainability.
Of course, we also want to see and visit some of Berlin's iconic sites, such as the Brandenburg Gate, East Side Gallery, Checkpoint Charlie, Fernsehturm, and not least the Berlin Wall Memorial and Museum Island area.
The Lessons
We work with recycled materials such as bed linen, tablecloths, curtains, from which we sew new clothes. This could be trousers, dresses, tops, tote bags and scrunchies. This way, we use already existing fabric that is easy to work with.
During the profile course you will learn basic sewing skills such as working with a pattern and sewing on a sewing machine. If you already have these skills, we will challenge you with new techniques and materials.
We will work both on jointly defined tasks, but also on individual projects.
The teaching will also be centred around upcycling, re-design and sustainability, and this will reflect the teaching and the trip to Berlin. We would like to have guest teachers and speakers who can teach upcycling, re-design, sustainability, styling, designers etc.
