Friday entertainment, Maskerave and TEBO

Dear Reader,

What a week we have had here at Ranum! With the second round of cultural studies elections, our brand new Imagination class and a visit from Shakespeare expert Kieron Jones, it's been a fast-paced week. As students head off for the weekend today, it's with festive prospects - it's Christmas party weekend here at school. So armed with apple slices, Christmas calendars and lots of cardboard and paper, we can now give you a well-deserved look back at the week that was, before we get Christmasy.

TEBO

TEBO stands for Thematic Business Bridging and OSO, and is a programme where the students in grade 10 have chosen a so-called world before the start, which forms the framework for the students' future work in the bridging programme. The different worlds that students have been able to choose from are:

In week 47, students will go on a bridge-building course, work placement visits to relevant companies and develop their OSO assignment.

OSO stands for Obligatory Self-Selected Task, and is the product that students have to deliver to their teachers after the Bridge Building Week. The OSO assignment this year is done in groups and a 5 minute video is handed in. per group.

Mascerave

O Romeo, Romeo, what is it that hath happened between Kærhuset and Ranumhus?

O Julie, my Julie, love, sorrow and fabulous acting unfolded here at school on Thursday night, and what an experience it was!

Kieron Jones has been visiting the school this week, inviting you to dance, sing and act with his fantastic introduction to Shakespeare and Romeo & Juliet. Pupils have been taught in class at the Loft in Hearth, where they were drawn through the drama by Kieron via the art of acting.

All this culminated on Thursday evening in a full-blown masquerade, where 5 brave students performed a play, led by Kieron Jones, for the rest of the student group.

The story goes:

The new student Romeo moves into Ranumhus, but immediately falls in love with the beautiful Julie from Kærhuset. A tragedy without equal! Paris, Julie's ex-boyfriend, is against this romance. This results in a showdown between Romeo and Paris, after which fate wills that Romeo is expelled from school.

Julie, in sheer grief, is lied to sick, and admitted to the infirmary. The whole tragedy culminates in both Juliet and Romeo jumping off the roof of the Love House, into certain death.

The students once again delivered a truly amazing and vibrant performance that will surely be remembered!

Donation from Lions Club

On Wednesday evening, the Lions Club in Løgstør presented a donation of DKK 10,000 to the school. The donation goes to Ranum's Friendship School in Nepal, and will be handed over from REC to the Friendship School on their cultural trip to Nepal in March. The donation was presented to headmaster Olav Storm by Per Rasmussen, president of the Lions Club in Løgstør.

Culture Subject Choice

On Monday, the second round of the cultural subjects took place. This time it took place in rooms around the school, giving students a deeper insight into cultural studies and travel.

This year, the cultural subjects Sailing in Thailand, Brasilien and Costa Rica have shown the most interest, therefore 2 new cultural subjects have been proposed for Sailing in New Zealand and Greece respectively. Next week we will complete the process when students will hear about the cultural subjects for the 3rd time on Monday. Then, on Thursday, parents will have the big insight into the cultural subject trips so that families can make a joint decision over the extended weekend.

The presentation on the cultural trips will also be available on the school map on Friday.

All information about the cultural subjects selection process is now available under the School Curriculum.

Sailing:

Now that everything is a bit grey and boring, and everyday life has set in, it's only fitting to take a look back at our P1 travels. Our talented student Linus has put together a video of his sailing trip to Croatia - and we dare say it's worth a look.

Christmas-hygge Weekend

Picture from last year's Christmas weekend

This weekend, we're turning up the heat as this year's school Christmas weekend gets underway. With 400 pupils at the school, it's set to be one heck of a weekend of Christmas fun. Activities this weekend include perhaps Denmark's biggest game of parcel games, a trip to the Christmas market, a Ranum Christmas calendar, mass production of Christmas decorations for the school and of course a cavalcade of the greatest Christmas songs on the loudspeakers.
