Visit from China and receiving an award

This week has been a week of studying and written exams, and what could be better than enjoying the sunshine with friends after a long exam? There seems to be a clear consensus on this, as the school's outdoor areas are being enjoyed to the fullest.

In addition, we have had a visit from our Chinese friendship school and received an award. You can read more about the award in this week's newsletter.

Happy reading!

Summer weather brought joy at the weekend

The weekend was at its best with summery weather and temperatures around 25 degrees. This led to sunbathing, roller skating, swimming and lots of socialising around the school.

Watch the fun video below, where students have a blast splashing around and competing on the slide.

BOAT SHOW DENMARK in Fredericia Marina

We also had a great weekend at the boat show! Thanks so much to all the cool kids who jumped into our diving tank and tried to breathe underwater - it was so cool to see your courage and curiosity.

Also, a big thank you to all of you who stopped by for a chat about efterskolelife and how to combine water sports and sailing in everyday life. It's been a pleasure meeting you all!

Chinese Friendship School visit

This week we had the pleasure of a visit from our friendship school, Overseas Chinese Academy of Chiway (OCAC) from China.
OCAC is an international school community with branches in Suzhou and Wuxi, among others, that combines the Chinese curriculum with international programmes like IB.
We see it as a clear strength when we meet across cultures, because it strengthens our understanding of each other, challenges our perspectives and develops the cultural antennae that are so important in a globalised world - both for them and for us. In addition to spending a few days at the school, they have had day trips to Aros and the old city of Aarhus, among other places.

Coral Restoration has received an award from PADI

Our skilled and hardworking team at Coral Restoration has received a PADI Award for Outstanding Contribution to Ocean Conservation.

It is a great recognition of the work we do every day with marine life, the marine environment and sustainability. The award is an important pat on the back for the dedicated teachers who work hard to give students knowledge, experiences and understanding of the world's climate and environmental challenges in the oceans.

We are very proud of the strong academic and practical environment built around marine science at Ranum - and of the students who choose a year of diving, research and learning about life under the sea.

A big thank you to PADI for the recognition - and to all the students and instructors who make a difference every day.

Written exams in English, Danish and maths

It's that time of year again, when exams are a big part of everyday life and excitement and butterflies are a natural part of the experience.

This week there have been written exams in English, Maths and Danish. Many students turned up well prepared with programmes, computers, chargers, snacks and the necessary tools ready for the day. For others, it was a good reminder of how important it is to be well prepared.

Regardless of the starting point, the exam period is an important part of the learning and education process where students gain experiences they can take with them.

FGU put on a blast of a performance

On Tuesday we had a visit from FGU (preparatory education) in the school ballroom.

They delivered a beautiful and energetic performance with music, acting and dance. The performance was based on being young and attending efterskole - focusing on friendships, boyfriends, community and the many experiences and challenges that come with life in a youth environment.

A big thank you for an inspiring and humorous experience.

Spring warmth gets everyone in a good mood

What a great time we're having right now, and we're looking forward to the coming weeks. School activities are in full swing and we're noticing a great desire to use the outdoor areas - whether it's on the volleyball courts, in cosy corners, around the fire in the evening or at a football match between the houses.

It's great to be in the spring mood and all the life that comes with it.

Sascha wins DM in Skills

This year, the Danish Skills Championships were held in North Jutland, and first place went to a media graphic designer we know particularly well - Sascha.

Two years ago, Sascha was a media graphics apprentice at Ranum Efterskole College, where we had the pleasure of following her development both professionally and personally.

It is a great pleasure to see former students and apprentices take the next step and achieve great results in their careers. We are proud to be able to give young people a good start - both in education and on their way into the labour market.

Congratulations to Sascha on the great result.

This year's Dream Festival is getting underway!

The project class has moved outside in the sun and is busy preparing for this year's Dream Festival. Held every year, the festival is a big gathering point for all students in the last week before the school year ends.

The project class is once again showing great vigour and commitment, as they have done several times during the school year. They are working on signs, banners and creative ideas to help give the festival the best possible setting and atmosphere.

Who doesn't love a good cookie?

Inch from Thailand and Sebastian from the USA have been creating cosy cookie nights throughout the winter term, baking cookies for the school's other students.

Yesterday, Thursday, the last cookie night was held before the many summer events at the school take over.

A big thank you to the two dedicated students for their efforts - and look at the amazing support they get from the other students.

Headmaster's column

Dear reader,

This week, the Japanese cherry trees budded and the whole area is now green, beautiful and ready to welcome the incoming class and their families for New Student Day on Sunday.

It's a special day when the current student team in many ways ”crosses their own path”. Many still remember the excitement of meeting their future efterskole classmates for the first time, so they are ready to welcome the new students and help them have a great day.

The written tests have got off to a good start, and fortunately we have avoided the challenges with the organisation of the 9th grade tests that several places in the country have experienced. This is partly due to strong collaboration between test teachers, IT, office, kitchen and management, who together make it all work.

These days, it's also time to find gala partners, and ingenuity abounds. One girl was asked by her boyfriend in a cloud of pink flowers and with a large bouquet in her hand. The rumour about the event had spread in advance, so many other students - especially the girls - had turned up to watch. It was also the last night that the students served Ranum cookies, and it all developed into another cosy and community-filled experience in efterskoleår.

Not everyone will find or dare to invite another student to the gala, and that's okay. Teachers make sure that everyone has a partner for lancing and dancing throughout the gala night.

We're now looking forward to a great weekend and a big New Student Day, before we enter a short week where the students already get Wednesday afternoon off.

Yours sincerely
Olav Storm
Principal

Summer camps for all ages

If you are between 14-17 years old, this is a unique opportunity for you to socialise, develop new skills and try a lot of fun and challenging activities. It's all about community, experiences and memories for life.

New this year, we're also launching a Grandparents Camp. Here, grandparents and grandchildren can enjoy a week's stay together with good catering throughout the week, exciting excursions and fun activities for all ages.

We will visit the Limfjord Museum in Løgstør and take a historical trip to Livø. In addition, the week offers plenty of activities to enjoy together across generations.

We're looking forward to a summer filled with community and great experiences.
