Building bridges and going back in history

Dear reader,
This week, the 10th graders have been on a bridge-building trip around the different secondary and vocational schools, and they ended the week in style with a focus on the UN World Goals. While our 10th graders were busy, our 9th graders and international students went on a couple of trips; first to Jelling and then to Aarhus.

From global goals to everyday goals
For the 10th graders, the first four days focused on where to start the next school year; will it be general upper secondary school, commercial upper secondary school, SOSU education or something else? There are many options and therefore it has also been important to show students their options so that they can make the best choice for them and their future. After four days away from home, the students returned for a Friday where the UN's Sustainable Development Goals were in focus. We had a visit from I Love Global Goalswhich made us more aware of the different SDGs. For the students here at Ranum, climate action, marine life, hunger prevention, gender equality and poverty eradication are the most important SDGs. That's why the five goals were the focus of the students' tour and their input into the sustainability debate. A lot of good ideas came up on how to change the issues and hopefully some of these ideas can become part of everyday life here at Ranum.

Close to Danish history
With the AFS students in the lead, the international students got up close and personal with Danish history in the year 965 to be precise. With the weather gods on their side, the students became familiar with King Harald Bluetooth and the Jelling Stone, which was raised in honour of his parents Gorm the Old and Queen Thyra.

Danish Day: AROS and the Old Town
On Thursday, the Modern Breakthrough and Romanticism took centre stage when the 9th graders joined the international students in Aarhus. First it was AROS and Danish art history that was explored, followed by a walk through the cosy but cold streets of the Old Town.

A well-deserved long weekend are in store for the students this Friday. We're staying the weekend until Monday evening, when we open the doors for our annual Performance Week.

Next week is performance week, where we get ready for the weekend's performance day, which is Saturday. The students will introduce their parents to their cultural subjects and there is also a theatre piece in store. However, that's not all we have to get ready for on Saturday. The country is also on 1 December, which means that our Christmas market is just around the corner, so we need to get the last things in place before we open the doors to perhaps the cosiest Christmas market in Denmark.

Culture- and Performance day & Christmas market
Remember, you still have until Wednesday next week to register for the Culture and Performance Day. You can register on Skoleplan, where you can also find the programme for the day. Our Christmas market is open from 11.00-16.00 for EVERYONE who wants to kick off Christmas in the best way.

All the best,
Ranum Efterskole College
