Afterschools' Day on 30 Sept 10-17

ED Header v4

Afterschool Day is just around the corner and we look forward to welcoming you and your family. We'll show you what we're doing in profile subjects (there are more than 50 to choose from), on our trips around the world and, of course, in our academic subjects.

Students show around and answer questions while you see the school together. There will be a presentation about after-school life and the values of Ranum in the common room, and plenty of activities will be going on. You can taste food from all over the world at our Food Court, watch various performances from the profile subjects (e.g. dance) and then experience how Ranum really opens up a world of possibilities.

The kitchen kicks off the day with a delicious international breakfast brunch from 10am and the school doesn't close until 5pm.

Profile subjects and teaching

faellesfoto

We offer 9th and 10th grades, as well as 3 international lines with high school level exams. The level division means that you are challenged academically and that individual schedules are designed for all our students. You can choose from more than 50 different profile, cultural and optional subjects. Profile subjects bring together students with similar interests and form strong communities across the whole school. New profile subjects are created in collaboration between pupils and teachers - the sky's the limit.

Profile subjects

First period
August - October

 Culture Subjects

Second period
October - February

 Profile subjects

Third period
March - May

The students choose their first Profile Subject before they start. You will spend time planning the trip, and learn how to set personal and common goals together in the group. For instance, the divers train for their PADI Open Water certificate, dancers learn choreography, sailers learn sailing and so on. The first Profile Subject trip will be around 7 days.

The theme for the second period is culture and world citizenship. The Culture Subjects are based on the culture of a country, for instance USA, Nepal, South Peru or China. You will prepare the trip, which is not a vacation at all. You will meet other young people from all over the world and form friendships for life. Typically, the trip is 10-14 days long.

The third period focuses on personal formation and development by combining both cultural subjects and profile subjects. Students are now experienced in shaping profile subjects and very engaged in creating new subjects. For example, a group of students invented the profile subject Cheerleading and travelled to the USA where they trained with local youngsters. The last trip typically lasts 5-8 days.
