Mexico

During the trip, the pupils will explore the Yucatán Peninsula on the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. We will be visiting five different towns: Cancún, Cozumel, Valladolid and Mérida.

When we get to Mérida, we’ll be staying with various host families who are connected to the school in one way or another.

As well as that, we’ll be visiting lots of historical sites, including the Mayan temple at the archaeological site of Chichén Itzá, which has been named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World; we’ll be swimming in cenotes and much, much more.

The purpose of the trip is to develop, push personal boundaries and form you through experiences of another culture.

It’s a new trip, but not the first time Ranum Efterskole College has travelled to Mexico, so the students will also have the chance to suggest places they think are worth visiting on the trip.

As part of their preparations for the trip and for encountering a different culture, pupils are to explore various topics relating to Mexican culture, traditions, religion, climate challenges, geography and history. In this context, pupils must prepare a presentation on a specific topic, which they will then present to the other pupils in the group.

Pupils must also carry out research on a topic of their own choosing before and during the trip, so that they can acquire and share their new knowledge on the subject after the trip.

It’s important that you’re keen on a group trip where all activities take place together. All activities take place during the day, and in the evening you’ll be together at the hostel or hotel, playing games, relaxing, socialising, chatting and so on.  In some parts of Mexico, we need to be careful about being out and about after dark. You should watch out for pickpockets and avoid using your phone whilst walking from A to B.
