Mexico - Culture and Homestay

Cultural studies, Travel

Mexico - land of cultures, traditions, and flavours.

On the trip, students will discover the Yucatan Peninsula on the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. We will visit three very different cities: Cancun, Valladolid and Merida. We will stay privately for part of the trip with hosts in the Merida area with families who are in some way connected to the school or are known to the families of former students.

In addition, we will see a lot of historical sites including the Mayan temple at the archaeological site of Chichen Itza, voted one of the 7 newest wonders of the world, we will swim in cenotes and much, much more.

The purpose of the trip is to develop, push personal boundaries and form you through experiences of another culture.

This is the second time that Ranum Efterskole College travels to Mexico, so the students will also have the opportunity to come up with good ideas for places that they think should be experienced on the trip.

The lessons

As part of the preparation for the trip and the foreign culture, we will immerse ourselves in different topics of Mexican culture, traditions, religion, geography or history. We will prepare a presentation on a specific topic to be presented to the other students in the class.

  • Teambuilding
  • Mexican cooking
  • Group projects and presentations
  • History and the Mayan Culture
  • Mini language course
  • Preparing for travel

We will also do research on a topic of your choice before and during the trip, so that you can gain and disseminate your new knowledge on the topic after the trip.

It is important that you want a group trip where all activities take place together. All activities take place during the day and in the evening you are together in the hostel/hotel; playing games, relaxing, having fun, talking etc. In some places in Mexico you have to be careful about going out after dark. Be aware of pickpockets and don't walk with your phone out when moving from A to B.

All safety instructions are reviewed with students prior to departure.

We follow the travel advice of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
