Cultural studies, Travel

Mexico - land of cultures, traditions, and flavours.

On the trip, students will discover the states of Yacatán and Quintana Roo on the Yucatan Peninsula on the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. We will see the Kukulkan pyramid, the Mayan temple at the archaeological site of Chichen Itza, school visits in Merida, Cenotes and much, much more.

The purpose of the trip is to develop, push personal boundaries and form you through experiences of another culture.

This is the first time that Ranum Efterskole College is travelling to Mexico, so the students will also have the opportunity to come up with good ideas for things to do and places to stay on the trip.

The lessons

As part of the preparation for the trip and the foreign culture, we will immerse ourselves in different topics of Mexican culture, traditions, religion, geography or history. In this context, we will prepare a presentation on a specific topic to be presented to the other students in the team. We also have to prepare lesson plans and materials for teaching at a secondary school in Merida.

    • Teambuilding
    • Mexican gastronomy
    • Group projects and presentations
    • School project
    • History and the Mayan Culture
    • Mini language course
    • Preparing for travel

You will also be required to research a topic of your choice before and during the trip, so that you can gain and communicate your new knowledge on the topic after the trip.

    The trip

This is the first time that Ranum Efterskole College travels to Mexico, so the students will also have the opportunity to come up with good ideas for places that they think should be experienced on the trip.

It is important that you want to join a group trip where all activities take place together. All activities take place during the day and in the evening you are together in the hostel; playing games, relaxing, having fun, talking etc. In some places in Mexico you have to be careful about going out after dark. You should be aware of pickpockets and don't walk with your phone out when you're moving from A to B.

All safety instructions are reviewed with students prior to departure.
