Karibu Kenya - Welcome to Kenya

A country of beauty and diversity. Kenya stretches from the white beaches of Mombasa to the grass savannah of the Masai Mara, where tourists from all over the world flies in to see elephants, lions, buffalos, leopards and rhinos - also known as the Big Five. In Kenya you will meet, farmers, Maasai cattle herders, tech entrepreneurs, fashionistas, slum dwellers, street artists, high school students and many others.

On our trip we will explore the diversity of Kenya and hear many different stories of how to be young in Kenya. We will spend most of our time in the countryside, where we will live in the middle of the amazing Kenyan savannah, go on safari and explore the unique nature of the area. We will also meet farmers and pastoralists struggling with the effects of climate change and see a local permaculture center. In the small town of Nanyuki we will meet the young volunteers at the towns youth hub and an organisation working with street children. We will learn more about Kenyan culture, history and politics. We will also discuss climate change, poverty, women's rights and the rights of children in a Kenyan context.

At the end of the trip we will stay a few days in Kenya's capital Nairobi. Here we will see the slum of Kibera and meet the young entrepreneurs of Silicon Savannah. We get a crash course in Kenyan politics and meet young political street artists, who fight against corruption. And we will follow in the shoes of a Kenyan student at a high school in Kenya. We will follow some of their classes and hear what it is like to be a student in Kenya.

Accomodation and local cooperation

Our trip to Kenya is organized in cooperation with the NGO "Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke". Both in Nanyuki and in Nairobi we will stay at their global platforms - a mix between an education center, a guest house and a youth house.

Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke have local teachers and guides, who will follow us on all trips visiting local organisations and places. The platform in Nanyuki is situated in the quiet, beautiful nature of Kenya. The platform shares its grounds and canteen with a Kenyan boarding school for girls.

Self-payment on the trip will be about 9.500 kr.

+ possibly a collective cancellation insurance - 350,- DKK. Visa included, if you have a danish passport.
