International evening, weekend in Aarhus and donut factory

Dear reader,

We've made it through another wonderful efterskole week here at Ranum, and it's not over yet. Later today, the Friends Weekend starts, which means that there will be lots of life and activities at the school all weekend, where around 500 students and friends will create efterskole life together. Stay tuned to our channels over the weekend to see how it all goes.

With that said, we're ready to dive into this week's stories - welcome and enjoy.

International evening

Wednesday evening focused on the international life of the school, and in particular the international students. The international evening was a celebration of diversity,

Yesterday, we celebrated diversity.

Our international students from Germany, Thailand, Italy, France, Australia, Canada, Spain, Argentina, Indonesia, Turkey, Chile, Switzerland, India, Mexico, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ecuador, England, Austria and Bangladesh planned an exciting evening with workshops, dance performances, various food-tastings and lots of music. The Danish students were very interested in learning about other cultures and it certainly helped that there was something delicious to taste.

Weekend in Aarhus

Nigel wrote about the weekend trip to Aarhus - so here it is

"Long weekend trip to Aarhus Saturday 11th September 10.30am-9pm.We started with a short visit to HRH Queen Margrethe II's summer residence gardens, Marselisborg Dyrhave. Margrethe was unfortunately not home, but we were not disappointed, as we met got to meet her very tame pets. After lunch we drove into the centre of Aarhus to visit AroS Art Museum. The tour to ARos was not compulsory and half of the students went into the city in groups.

Those who chose to visit the exhibitions were quite taken away by the sheer size, and quality of the art pieces and not least by the interior architecture and rainbow walk. After ARos everyone had a couple of hours free-time to shop and see the city, before we all .had dinner together at Aarhus Street Food and took the bus back to RanumGreat to see Lukas, Captain and Alexander in Aarhus."

Donut factory

Ranumhus is known for its bakery, where Tanja works hard every day to bake bread and cakes for the whole school. That in itself is a huge achievement! Another great achievement at Ranumhus was made on Tuesday, when the café was transformed into the Donut Factory, where students decorated their own doughnut with all sorts of toppings. See some of the results below.

Wear your linen

Fashion and Sustainability had a course on Thursday with Stine, the woman behind the company https://atter.dk/Stine taught us how to sew our own clothes from used bedding in her exuberant and engaging way. Stine's philosophy is that sewing should be easy so that you can succeed with your projects, and that you should sew from recycled materials such as bedding.

Some already finished a piece of clothing on Thursday, but we will continue to work on it in the next times. You can look forward to seeing their personal creations! Afterwards, Stine gave an interesting talk about her own thoughts on sustainability and what we can each do. She also talked about her company ATTER, how it came about, how she markets herself, and about life as an independent.

It provided a good, exciting and personal insight into life as an entrepreneur, and an inspiration for how we can each take responsibility for the world we live in. Prior to the day, the Fashion team had visited Blå Kors in Aalborg to buy bedding for the day. https://m.facebook.com/blaakorsgenbrugscenteraalborg/.

They were very helpful and had a great selection, so we can only recommend.

Ranum Efterskole Open day

Ranum Efterskoles Open Day is just around the corner, and I'm sure many of you reading this know what it's all about. For the first time, the roles are reversed, as the students get to proudly show off the school to all the interested young people who visit Ranum on the day. It's an important day for all of us at Ranum, and the students are the best ambassadors we can possibly imagine. That's why the current students give guided tours around the school and tell about efterskole life, as now they are the experts and can answer questions from those considering a year at an efterskole.

If you know a young person who deserves an unforgettable year at Ranum efterskole, please send them to this page: https://www.ranumefterskole.dk/efterskolernesdag/

All the best,

Ranum Efterskole College
