Japan, Tokyo - culture, nature and youth

In the cultural subject, Japan awaits an encounter with the "Kingdom of the Sun" - the fascinating country that lives in contrast between high technology and traditional customs and virtues.

TEACHING

We need to be as well-equipped as possible to engage with Japanese youth culture and the firm grip of tradition in Japan, where there is a great mix of tradition and rapid technological development.

The teaching will focus on Japan's religion, history and culture, as well as how to behave like a proper tourist. We will also learn simple but important phrases in Japanese. But we also delve into the creative competences, where we work with different topics within Japan. For example, we'll work with Manga, where we'll learn how to draw - and maybe some animation. We'll work with Japanese food culture, where we'll try to cook some traditional dishes from Japan. We'll try origami, the art of folding paper. And there will be martial arts training in the various Japanese martial arts.

We spread the subject out in small and large ways. There will be room for many different personalities in the course, both those who are interested in Japanese culture, religion and history, as well as those who have a hobby in the world of Manga and Anime or an interest in their martial arts.

In addition, we work with our 3 chosen UN Goals, which are 4, 5 and 14. Here we will compare our education system with theirs. Our progress on gender equality compared to theirs. And our approach to fishing and regulations to protect marine biodiversity.

TRAVEL

The journey itself goes through the regions of Shikoku, Chugoku and Kinki. This means we will visit Hiroshima, the ancient capital Kyoto and the 3rd largest city Osaka

We'll visit temples and imperial palaces, tea ceremonies, Japanese traditional onsen and come face-to-face with a Japanese school class to exchange future dreams, school culture, opportunities and trends for Japanese peers. There is also the Meet the Locals assignment. Where students have to interview the locals.

If you love Japan and its fascinating culture - or if you want to become one - join us for a unique journey that will inspire you for the rest of your life!

AFTER THE JOURNEY

When we return from the trip, we will work on a presentation where the students will share their own highlights from the lessons and the trip itself (For this, it is good to have taken pictures in the classroom and on the trip). We will also finalise and show the students' interviews, as well as a conclusion to our UN-goals.

REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS

Students are expected to be on their best behaviour and understand that you are a guest in another country, so you respect how they do things. We will meet new people, where you have to be open to asking questions and engaging with new acquaintances. In addition, they must be prepared for long walks/hikes. In Japan they have great respect for the elderly, so we expect the students to show this on the trip.

ECONOMY

Self-payment on the journey will be 15.000 kr.

Visa included.

Pocket money: App. 1.000 kr. recommended
