Two weeks until the departure of cultural subjects - and a full week of midterms

The corridors have had a calm atmosphere while the students have taken turns sitting for term exams - but at the same time, the community in the houses has taken on a new form because everyone has had a different schedule. When the exams were over, the students needed to release all that energy, and they did so by snowboarding and African dancing, among other things.

In this week's newsletter you can also meet Lucia, Sarah and Tamara from Austria and Emma from Uruguay - our lovely students who we will say goodbye to on Saturday.

Happy reading

From sun in Uruguay to winter in Denmark

Would you spend your summer holiday in Denmark instead of staying home in the sun? Emma from Uruguay did just that.

Because while it's summer in Uruguay, she chose to travel to Ranum Efterskole College - together with three girls from Austria participating through an Erasmus programme.

The girls have been at the school for five and six weeks respectively, filled with new friendships, cultural exchange and unforgettable experiences.

Meet the girls in the video below and hear about their stay at the school.

Project class explores creativity and innovation

On Tuesday, the project class visited the company Råt & Godt, which specialises in creating furniture from recycled materials. The students were given an inspiring tour by founding director Christian Helweg, who taught them the value of thinking creatively and seeing opportunities where others see waste.

Skills sailing getting ready for the proficiency exam

The sailing team have immersed themselves in the charts and are now finalising the final details in preparation for the proficiency exam. It will be a pleasure to see them finish - just as the weather improves and they can get out on the water and put their new knowledge into practice.

The end of term exams are now over

The week has mainly been spent on end-of-term exams in all kinds of different subjects. Although the students have had to concentrate for many hours at a time, the atmosphere has been characterised by great goodwill and support. It's a pleasure to walk around the corridors just before a test and hear how they wish each other good luck.

There was no shortage of energy along the way either - milk, grapes, sweets, energy drinks and even whole pizzas were dragged along to keep up the momentum.

Snowboard in the schoolyard

Spring is just around the corner, and before the thaw sets in, the last of the snow had to be enjoyed in the schoolyard. Our wakeboarding teacher Malik built a ramp with flying jumps together with the students, and both beginners and experienced riders had the opportunity to try their hand at snowboarding.

South Africa dances to delicious rhythms

In about 2½ weeks, around 500 students will embark on one of life's greatest adventures. Preparations are in full swing and the creativity of the educational content knows no bounds. This week, the team travelling to South Africa danced their way into the heat to the sound of African rhythms.

Science day at the Limfjord Museum

The science class had a science day on Wednesday and spent all the day's modules exploring and learning more about nature. Among other things, they tried their hand at turning milk into plastic and took a trip to the Limfjord Museum in Løgstør, where they learnt about mussels and the small organisms in the fjord.

Headmaster's column

Dear reader,

Term test week is always special because it brings students together across all activities and puts the ”hectic” and changing 1TP5Life on pause. All students are doing the same thing and are focused, are off at the same time, and everyone is in the house. It's tempting to conclude that we need more of that, but at Ranum it may be a success because it's a contrast and because we are much more than a test and performance culture.

This week the students have also had a visit from the Sexualisers and it has been very well received. The young people emphasise that it's really good that it's a person who communicates, and not films and online programmes. This weekend, the students are off school from Thursday to Sunday, and many are heading home to get ready for the upcoming student party weekend and the departure weekend for the cultural studies trips.

But Ranum is still active. We are at the Aquarium Fair in Vejle, Efterskolemesse in Odense and in Flensburg at Duborgskolen on Saturday 10-15.00.

Have a great weekend.

Correction from last week’s column: Last week I wrote about an unpleasant incident and, in that connection, used the Danish word “forulempet.” In the English translation this was rendered as “molested,” which in this context has a far more serious meaning than was intended. The correct English word is “aggravated.” I of course apologize for the incorrect translation.
