A team of young people who have just won a sport

From Efterskolernes Day to medal and memorable host experiences at Ranum

This week at Ranum Efterskole has offered Efterskolernes Dag with many visitors, a nice canoe trip on Trend Å and a great second place for the girls' football team at the North Jutland Championships - the first time in the school's history with a medal! In addition, a host family shared a nice sunshine story about their experience with a young guest from India, which created new friendships and cultural exchange.

Happy reading!

Thank you for visiting Efterskolernes Day

We had a fantastic turnout for Efterskolernes Day, where our students did a great job giving tours and proudly showing off their school. The kitchen served delicious food that was enjoyed by many. Thank you to all visitors for joining us - it means a lot to us!

If you missed it, you can still book a tour here: https://www.ranumefterskole.dk/book-rundvisning/

Canoe trip on Trend Å

The Adventure team has been on an active canoe trip on Trend Å, where they both challenged themselves and strengthened the community in the beautiful nature. At Vilsted Lake and the plantations around the school, we work with both practical and theoretical outdoor skills. The canoe trip was a perfect way to experience nature up close and try out the many possibilities of the adventure programme.

The girls' football team finished second at the Nordjyske Championships

A sunshine story from host family

In September, Lisbeth and her family had the pleasure of hosting Parth from India for an extended weekend.

"I'm really glad we took courage and opened our home to a stranger. The initial shyness - on all our parts! - disappeared surprisingly quickly and we experienced an engaged, curious and reflective young man," Lisbeth tells Ranum Efterskole College in an email.

She continues:
"One of the highlights for me was cooking dinner with the boys and sitting in the evening 'looking at houses' on Google Maps. Parth showed us where he lives in India and where he dreams of building his own house. This led to some really good conversations about growing up, family life, future dreams, careers and even tax systems - and it was interesting to realise how many similarities there actually are between Denmark and Parth's India."

The photos show Parth with his Danish host brother, who also attends Ranum Efterskole College, during their joint visit to Aarhus.

Would you like to get to know a young person from another part of the world - and give an experience of a lifetime by sharing a piece of your everyday life?

In November, 22 international students from Thailand, India, Indonesia and Argentina will visit us and are looking forward to experiencing Denmark through a Danish home.

Headmaster's column

Dear reader,

Efterskolernes Day was once again a day of celebration at Ranum. More than 2,000 guests visited the school, where they were shown around by the students, heard presentations about the school's values and international profile, and enjoyed the dance performance and the many refreshments on the square. Afterwards, we have received many complimentary emails recognising the students' commitment to their efterskole. One father even felt he had to tell us that he had now been converted - and that he himself would start at Ranum tomorrow if it were possible. Unfortunately, our IT supplier is having problems with the enrolment module, so you have to send an email to the school's info@ranumefterskole.dkif you are interested in a place for the coming school years. We also have some places available for this school year if you know someone who has started secondary education too early or needs an extra kick in 9th or 10th grade.

In the coming week, all students and most of the staff will be travelling on the profile subject trips. On the trips, we will apply the skills we have learnt at home and experience both social interaction and new challenges. Most are travelling with both an activity and a focus on meeting other young people and new cultures.

The journey also marks a transition in the 1TP5 year - and for the young people - from being a child to being counted as a young adult at eye level with the teachers on the journey. My message to the students at the community gathering has been that they must now play each other strong, take care of those who have difficulty finding their way into the community and who are unsure about travelling in the unknown. Those who invest in each other and collaborate with the adults on the journey receive a huge gift of trust and respect. We all grow from that!

I wish all students and staff a safe and safe journey, and we invite anyone curious to follow the journeys on the many Facebook groups and on Instagram.
