Ranum Magazine, profile subjects: start-up & farewell to AFSers

Dear reader,

We have had a good start with the efterskole life after the intro weeks, and the community is already thriving in the profile subjects, in the contact groups and in the classes. Even though the intro weeks are over, there are many new impressions and we are still very much focused on efterskole life. In other words, life as an efterskole student is well underway and we are getting used to the new routines and, in general, the new everyday life. It's a great process and we find that the students really want the efterskole life. For example, a really nice evening tradition has developed in the schoolyard in the Seminariehuset. Every evening the students gather here and sing goodnight songs to and with each other, saying thank you for a wonderful day.

Another tradition here at Ranum is that we publish the newsletter every Friday, and you are already well on your way to reading it. Thank you for that and enjoy reading.

The New Ranum Magazine (danish version) is out

Ranum Efterskole College as a school is almost constantly evolving, and as a natural extension of this, our magazine is also changing. There are new subjects, new ways of teaching and a lot more. That is why a group of staff members is transformed annually into an editorial team, which works intensively on publishing the magazine. And that's where we've come to now. Today they have arrived, and in their lifetime they will travel far and wide.

Of course, we've also made a digital version, which you can already get your hands on here: Ranum Magazine 2021

English version is in the pipeline and will be published in 2-3 weeks time. In the coming period, we are also asking old students and parents to help distribute the magazine to friends, acquaintances, workplaces or whatever, so if you are in one of the groups on Facebook, please keep an eye out there.

The last dance: Arrivederci

Thursday evening was a festive delight in the Festival Hall. The group of AFS students from Italy, who have been at the school for the first few weeks, held a graduation party for the whole school, and they had gone to great lengths to put on a good programme and decorate.

We wish them all the best and thank them for the many pleasant moments at Ranum.

Profile Subjects

Students have had profile subjects more than a handful of times now, and overall we're off to a good start. The communities of interest across the profile subjects are a great opportunity to make new friends and maybe get paired up with some you haven't met yet. And it's just great to have profile subjects as part of the school curriculum!

New roof on the main building

The main school building are currently being refurbished. The roof has served its time, and with 70 years behind it, one must also say it has done well. The classrooms are a bit noisy these days, but we are dealing with it, with a smile.

Introduction to Ranum Efterskole on flickr

During the school year, we take a lot of photos, and not all of them are shared on our social media. Some are sorted out due to bad light, others because of closed eyes. But maybe it was just the photo that was sorted out that you wanted to see, which is why we've gathered them all together on Flickr. We update the page regularly

Don't forget to follow our channels, which are updated daily with videos, text and photos from after-school life. We use Facebook, Instagram and Youtube (click on the names to enter our pages)

Vilsted Lake Run

Already tonight, parents and other family are invited to the Family Weekend, where we have Nepal bingo and other activities. This can be seen as a warm-up for tomorrow, which is a big day for us at Ranum. There is the Vilsted Lake Run, where students, families and staff participate in what we call Denmark's most beautiful lake race. The day is spent actively together, and there's a chance to catch up with some of the teachers, see the efterskole and have a lovely weekend together.

Ranum Efterskole Open day

On Sunday the 26th September, it's “Efterskoles Day”, when all the country's efterskoles invite visitors inside. So if you know a young person who deserves an unforgettable year at an efterskole, tell them about Ranum. And better still - send them over to our website here: Afterschools Day 2021

That's all for this week's news from Ranum. We hope to see many of you reading along this weekend.

All the best,

Ranum Efterskole College
