Welcome to the new school year!

Dear reader,

It has been a fantastic kick off the new Ranum Efterskole College school year filled with positive energy and lovely young people’s smiles. They have showed the community spirit and commitment to enjoy the efterskole year to the fullest. Things are looking good!

The students have gone home for a well deserved extended weekend to recharge - and probably tell a lot of efterskole stories from the first two weeks of their school year. Let's look back at some of the great moments we've had over the first two weeks in the first newsletter of the year. Welcome back and happy reading!

Welcome to efterskole life: "First day of school"

On Sunday the 8th August 2021, almost 500 expectant young people arrived in Ranum. After check-in and help of the parents to carry bags up to their new rooms in the different houses, it was time to meet the contact group - physically, for the very first time. And short after the last hugs and goodbyes, the new and exciting efterskole life was about to begin!

We are holding the wind in our sails and setting course for a fantastic year at Ranum efterskole College.

Later, everyone gathered in the Multihallen, where we danced, sang and more importantly spent time with each other. And ended the day with a fun game called the Train of Love. It connects the students and brings out the importance of togetherness during their unique and special year.

Tour of Ranum

During the tour around Ranum, the students had a great chance to get to know the place where they will be living for a year of their lives . The contact groups spent the day together with a map in hand accompanied by a series of questions. The grocery store, the medical centre, the recycling centre, Vilsted Lake and a lot of other places to explore.

Tour of Rønbjerg

One of the most important activities during the intro week is the tour of Rønbjerg. The day started with a walk to Rønbjerg as a house activity and socialising with the contact group.

Rønbjerg Harbour is a place where especially the sailing students will spend a lot of time. It is our maritime base, where the small Ranum fleet is located. The wakeboard track is also located in Rønbjerg at Landal Rønbjerg- holiday centre.

The contact groups were given a lot of tasks and games to complete, and as you can see from the pictures, we had a great day together,

Perhaps the most important part of the programme - apart from lunch with the family groups, of course - was the swimming test, which had to be completed by all students. It is important to get through it, especially if you want to have profile subjects that have something to do with water. Then we have to be sure that the student can swim.

Nordic Race

After a calm and relaxing Tuesday morning all you need is to get your body moving again. So after an calm start on Tuesday morning with a lot of practical information, the pace changed drastically. One of the intro week activities that the teachers in particular had been looking forward to was our very own Nordic Race.

The contact groups had to work together on different tasks, obstacle run with canoes and a whole lot more. It was every bit as hectic and wonderful as it sounds.

We made a little video from the day- watch it here

Room cleaning

The students must learn to clean their own rooms and assigned common areas. For some it's something completely new, for others it's more familiar - for everyone it's a good learning experience and a necessary part of efterskole life. It's a responsibility and a task we have to do together, and even if that vinegar doesn't exactly smell like flowers, it's very helpful to get the room as clean as possible.

Colour party

On Friday evening of the first week all contact groups were given different colours to dress in, and then they had to set a table in the colours that represented the group for the big colour party. It is always a nice evening to talk about what has happened during the first week at Ranum. What has surprised you? What are you looking forward to? And of course, it's an evening to celebrate diversity and community and to say thank you for a great first week.

We have collected a lot of pictures from the beautiful and colourful party on Flickr, which you can see here: Colour party 21/22 (click here)

Profile Subject Day

on Wednesday the profile subject activities started with many new and exciting experiences and emotions. Several spent the getting to know their new subjects and teachers, but it is exciting see the development of the young students acquiring new skills in the profile subject they have chosen already on the first week.

Saturday was the profile subject day. Tthe students had the opportunity to spend the whole day doing what they like, for example surfing in Klitmøller.

House Cup

The House Cup is a returning tournament between the different houses. Students compete in everything from eSports to football to more traditional disciplines like running and throwing competitions. As far as we've heard, the Seminariehuset won the first round. At the end of the year, the trophy is awarded to the house that has done best in the competitions during the year

Home by the efterskole bus

The efterskole buses were full when it was time to say thank you for some fantastic intro weeks, and most students have now returned home safely.

Events next week

Next weekend there is a family day and Vilsted Sø Løb, and if you are a family member or want to participate, remember to sign up. There will be a link on SkolerPlan, so watch your inbox and read more at https://www.vilstedsoeloeb.dkThe school will cover the price for the students and their families

We have reached the end of the first newsletter of this school year. We hope it has given you a little insight into the intro weeks - thank you for reading.

All the best,

Ranum Efterskole College
