Media & Journalism - New York and Washington D.C., USA

The trip

We will spend about 4 days in New York and 3 days in Washington D.C.

In New York we will of course see some of the big sights - like the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building and Ground Zero. We'll also visit film and TV related sights - like ABC's news programme Good Morning America and Tisch - NYU's art school.

We'll also see some of the famous places you know from movies in New York and maybe attend a gospel concert in Harlem. The famous and familiar NY atmosphere will be experienced between activities, where students will have time on their own.

In Washington D.C. there are also a lot of must-sees, Arlington National Cemetery, Smithsonian museums, Capitol building and the White House. In Washington we will focus on journalism and the history behind famous events - the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963, where Martin Luther King gave his famous "I have a dream" speech, and also the recent attack on Capitol Hill in 2021.

The Lessons

In class, we will make news reports, films, analyse films, write about current and popular events, learn how to take pictures and edit them - it also depends on the students' interests. There is plenty of room to make suggestions for the trip and we have many hours in class to research and prepare the trip.
