13 Feb New Activities, Valentine's fun and an intense game of dodgeball
This week was filled with competition, new activities and love. We are looking forward to a great weekend filled with Valentine's fun and activities on Valentine's Day, Saturday 14 February. Although not a common Danish tradition, as an international efterskole we embrace the world, especially when it comes to themes like love and unity.
Happy reading
New subjects and skateboarding
On Tuesday, the students had activity classes, including bowling which, along with Pilates, is one of the new classes students can choose this year. Skateboarding takes place in our new skate hall, where everyone who wanted to try it could join in. In the spring, there are club nights once a week in the skate hall.
Valentine's quiz and cosiness in the house
On Wednesday night there was a Valentine's Jeopardy game in Ranumhus, which the students participated in with great enthusiasm. The students also wrote Valentine's letters, which the teachers helped distribute around the school during the goodnight round.

Intense dodgeball tournament
On Thursday, the school dodgeball tournament was held, where the contact groups fought hard and the final victors could celebrate their victory with a trip to our local pizzaria. Congratulations to contact group 41 on their victory. Everyone had a great day of fun and competition. Both those who played and those who watched.

Dutch students
Last week we had a group of Dutch students from our friendship school visit us. Watch the video from their exciting and eventful week in Denmark here.

Headmaster's column
Dear reader,
No two days are the same at Ranum! Last week we wrestled with several pedagogical challenges. This week, the students have been revolving around Valentine's themes and seem almost in love with efterskolelivet and each other. It's not just Cupid's arrows that are being shot. Thursday's dodgeball tournament was a bit of a contrast to the love theme, as there aren't many sports where the focus is on shooting at each other. Students and contact teachers went all in on catching each other out, and the old tradition has now been revived. This weekend we're also celebrating Valentine's Day with lots of cosy activities - and the first round of blind dating at Ranum is on the cards. Some students have asked for a weekend with speed, so on Saturday there is the opportunity to take part in a big go-kart grand prix.
We have a lot of sick people at home this week and we hope that everyone will be well for the upcoming final exams. The exams are held for all students and are not only a training for the summer exams, but also a personal clarification of the level for the upcoming choice of secondary education. As a rule, the final exams are a rather cosy week where ”everyone” does the same thing at the same time and therefore has plenty of time on the side for fun and fellowship. Week 8 at Ranum also includes a visit from the Sexualisers, who - without the teachers - can take the students into the exciting, but for many new, universe. Students can ask questions, and in previous years it has always been a great opportunity to learn more about this beautiful side of teenage and adult life. Have a great weekend!
Have a great weekend
Correction from last week’s column: Last week I wrote about an unpleasant incident and, in that connection, used the Danish word “forulempet.” In the English translation this was rendered as “molested,” which in this context has a far more serious meaning than was intended. The correct English word is “aggravated.” I of course apologize for the incorrect translation.
