An active efterskolelife in late summer

Late summer is buzzing with life at Ranum Efterskole College. The students are well underway with profile subjects, new friendships and an everyday life filled with activity - both in the swimming pool, gym and outdoors. There have been TV visits, sailing on the fjord, and those students who want an adrenaline rush can now sign up for a parachute jump. We are also looking forward to the Vilsted Lake Race and fellowship with both students and families.

Full speed ahead with profile courses

This week has been characterised by the profile subjects, where the students have been busy with everything from sports to creative activities. In Rønbjerg Swimming Centre, the diving students practiced their skills underwater - and we were in the water with the camera to capture the impressive moments. It's always inspiring to see the students develop and take on new challenges! Watch the video from the diving lessons below.

In addition, preparations for the profile subject trips in October are in full swing and we can feel the excitement and curiosity from the students.

TV2 Nord visits - focus on homesickness

We have again had the pleasure of a visit from TV2 Nord, who made a report on an important topic: homesickness when starting efterskole. They spoke to both students and staff about how we at Ranum work to create a safe environment and community so that everyone gets a good start to their efterskole stay. The programme gives a great insight into everyday life and the support we offer students during the transition period.

Watch the feature in the link below, it starts at 07:20 minutes into the programme - just before the weather.

Lift-off competition: Strength and speed

This week, students interested in sports had the opportunity to take part in a fun and challenging competition that combined strength and speed. First, they had to bench press 50kg as many times as possible. Then they had to row 500 metres in time. What was special was that for each bench press repetition, seconds were subtracted from the time they rowed. A fun combination of strength and speed. The competition ended with two students getting exactly the same score, so the prize was split.

Best rowing time for 500 metres was 1:28 (that's fast!) and best reps with 50kg was 30 reps.

Sign up for the Vilsted Sø race - join the race party!

Registration for the Vilsted Sø race on 13 September is open, and we hope that even more students, parents and staff will join us to create a festive race day. Come and experience the nature, the community and the great atmosphere - and remember to sign up! It's a super cosy day where students also get the opportunity to show off their homes to parents, siblings, friends and grandparents.

Enrolment takes place at school level.

Students are already training on the school grounds and around the lake!

Ready for the big jump of your life? Tandem skydiving awaits!

Information meeting on Thursday 4 September at 16:00 in the ballroom. No wind, no problem!

Dense fog and no wind put the students' sailing skills to the test. It might have been tempting to stay in harbour - but instead they paddled out, dropped anchor and waited patiently for the conditions. When the wind finally came, they sailed on directly from the anchorage. A great learning experience and really well done by the students! No wind, no problem!

Headmaster's column

Dear reader,

1TP6Life blossoms in late summer, and there is activity everywhere. Especially in the evenings, many students are playing badminton, volleyball and creative socialising activities. Students have made a good start on their profile subjects, and around 15 % have switched to another subject. It is part of the Ranum DNA that you can experiment with courage, abilities and interests for a period of time - and discover what makes you happy and where you develop both as a person and in your activity.

This weekend, the focus will be on water sports, and many students will get to know sailing and the Limfjord for the first time. For many, feeling the power of the wind and waves in one of our ten school boats is an eye-opener and a whole new experience of nature.

In the coming week, we are organising a "At home with the contact teacher" event, where contact groups and family groups spend an afternoon and evening together with fun, games and cooking. Students will be spread out - from Viborg, Thy, Aalborg and the local area around Ranum - and will hopefully return with a better understanding of who their contact teacher is, in addition to the teacher role.

I would also like to invite all parents, siblings and grandparents to participate in Vilsted Sø Løb - our big family day. We are hosting the day, and there will be good food and cosy activities after both the run and the walk.

Have a great weekend!

Olav Storm Johannsen, Principal
