A week of sustainability

Dear reader,
This week we have focused on sustainability, making some changes to the menu and various evening activities. We have also had time for a concert in the common room and finally we must not forget the weekend, where we both went to Vilsted Sø Løb and had a visit from the parents.

Vilsted Sø Running and weekend visit from family
We started this week after a weekend full of fun. On Friday evening last week, parents and siblings started ticking in to experience a few days at Ranum Efterskole College. During the weekend, families attended the various profile classes, but there was also time to talk about what it's like to go to an afterschool and some of the many experiences students have while they're here.

While the school was full of life and happy families, we also had to go through the annual Vilsted Søløb and despite rain there was good mood all along the line; runners as well as spectators.

Focus on sustainability
Thinking sustainable is not new to the school, as we work with the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals throughout the school year. This week, however, we have focused a little more on the topic. Tuesday and Thursday, for example, were meat-free days. Although it tasted good, the students missed their daily ration of meat, but as one student wisely pointed out, it's good to try something new once in a while.

In the kitchen, however, they were also working on other sustainable initiatives than the meat-free days. This was also the week we took the first steps in phasing out disposable cardboard and plastic tableware. Instead, the kitchen will start using tableware made from sustainable materials that are kinder to the environment. The evening activities also helped to highlight sustainability. Maéva, a volunteer here at Ranum, had organised a jewellery café where the students helped to make different jewellery out of recycled materials. There was also time for a little clean-up during the week, as several of our students jumped on the bandwagon and went around in small groups collecting rubbish.

Concert
It was also this week that there was a concert with MONTI. The community hall underwent a small transformation with the help of the students and became on Tuesday evening the centre of music and high spirits.

Improvisation at its best
On Thursday evening, a small group of students headed to Aalborg Teater to see the improv group 3 stops from Gug. The actors were shouted down on the rows of chairs, after which a hilarious performance took place. Keywords such as Putin's office, Roskilde festival, rubber duck, board meeting and hunting club were used creatively on stage, while the laughter spasmed in the audience.

New Ranum Warehouse We have published this year's Ranum Magazine and we think you should take a look at it here. We are happy to send you some magazines if you want to help distribute them, just contact the office.

On weekends we will be visited by a lot of young people, as we have a friends weekend and we will have a lot of fun activities. We look forward to welcoming even more young people.

Next week
Next week's big event is our harvest party, which will be held on Thursday. Then there's a Friday leading up to the long weekend, when we'll be without our students until Monday evening.

Afterschools Day on 30 September
On 30 September, we open the doors to the Day of After-Schools. We are ready to introduce you to cultural subjects, academic subjects, travel and what life at Ranum Efterskole College is like. Students will be on hand to show you around, answer your questions and tell you about their everyday lives. We look forward to seeing you.

We still have places available for this school year! If you know someone who would love a year at an afterschool school, we'd love to hear from you!

Greetings all of us from
Ranum Efterskole College
