Cold chills, cool profiles and memories on your back

Dear reader,

15 cool profile courses are now off to a great start! This is the start of new challenges, experiences and communities of interest. These small, unique communities will be heading out into the world in three weeks. The trips are a big part of the development process that students and teachers are starting together these days.

You can see all the exciting trips and profile subjects by clicking here.

Thank you for reading and following afterschool life at Ranum Efterskole College.

Profilfagsstart

During the last third of the school year at Ranum, you can follow here and on our other channels what is happening in the 15 newly launched profile subjects. Here you will first get an insight into mountaineering, sailing and diving.

Mountaineering

Mountaineering is one of the brand new profile subjects this year. At the same time, it is one of the subjects where students have a huge say in what the lessons and experiences will be about - a student suggested the subject. It creates a unique collaboration and relationship between teacher and students when they can work together to put together such a team, and the experience of community is only strengthened by it. Mountaineering is for students who are interested in climbing, hiking, kayaking, mountain biking and lots of other outdoor activities.

Last Thursday, they showed that they are made of the right stuff in terms of being in the wild. In our own backyard at Vilsted Lake, they took a dip in the freezing water - and did so in convincing style. Check it out!

Practical diving classes in the pool & sea

And there were diving manuals for the diving-minded students who will soon be exploring the underwater life of Egypt and Malta. And in the Limfjord, for that matter. You have to start (and practice) somewhere. The divers learn a lot about themselves and about life underwater, and it's no secret that being underwater is a borderline experience for some. Still, the students do a great job on the team. They help each other and become familiar with the equipment at the same time. All of which equips them for the journeys ahead.

In scuba diving, the lessons also often take place underwater, and the diving team made a nice little video of that.

Sailing

On Facebook earlier this week, we shared a film from a former sailing team. You can watch it or re-watch it below.

When teaching varies

We have had some exploratory and fun situations in class during the week. For example, a biology class got their hands on the heart and lungs of a pig, which they dissected and examined in true surgical fashion. This taught them about the anatomy of internal organs, while also preparing them for the oral exam.

In addition, students and teacher seized the chance for mercantilism in the open air as the temperature crept around double digits.

In Spanish, they baked traditional and carnival-related cakes with teacher Isabel, who is from Spain herself. She told:

"Super proud of the Spanish students today! Great chefs! They made torrijas, orejas and freixós. Typical galician dessert for the carnival"

Imprint of the year

We have now sent the commemorative shirts to print, after all the students have gone by the sketch for the commemorative shirt and written their name on it. The commemorative banner is perhaps one of the most important physical items that pupils take with them when they are no longer here. It symbolises the whole community and unity of the school that you carry on your back.

We have craftsmen in the house

And they're working hard to finish our new bathrooms. If you've been following our channels, you might know that we've chosen to decorate them. We're making no less than 11 unique toilet cubicles, where in future you can explore pictures from around the world - taken by students who have taken part in photo competitions over the years. We can't wait to see what the final result will be, but for now you (and we) will have to settle for a sneak peek.

Events next week

Next week, students will be off at 2pm on Fridays for the Easter holiday. And then it's not long before we're off to see the world again!

We wish everyone a very good weekend

Greetings all of us at
