UN visit, photo competition and a ride on the blue wave

It's been a week of competitions!

With the Danish Basketball Championships, home football matches and the annual PVAY competition, there has been plenty of excitement and competition for victory.

We've also had visits from ambassadors from the United Nations and enjoyed the good weather by sailing on the fjord.

Happy reading!

Season start with good energy

The boys are back on grass! The new profile subjects started last week and the boys' football team has already kicked off the season with their first matches.

Even though they were “only” training matches, there was plenty of energy and spirit - and a clear ambition to build something bigger. We played at home and had a visit from Salling Efterskole.

Thanks for visiting and for a great game!

English training with UN delegates

This week, two of our English teams were visited by two Danish youth delegates from the United Nations.

It was great for the students to get an insight into how young people can make a real impact - even right up to big meetings and international conferences.

Mads, a trained carpenter, and Aksel, a trained boat builder, are strong examples of how you don't need an academic background to get involved and have a voice in the big picture.

First they gave a presentation about their work and afterwards they did exercises with the students about which institutions fulfil which tasks in society.

Thank you for an inspiring visit and for showing our students new ways to engage and influence

Photo, video, article and yearbook Competition

The winners of this year's photo, video, article and yearbook competition were announced with a round of applause. With more than 200 projects submitted, the competition was really tough.

The competition was a great way to look back on the many experiences and travels in March - and it was great to see how many people participated this year. There were great prizes at stake: DKK 500 in each category and a pair of AirPods for the overall “Best of the Best” winner, which this year went to Asger.

The time and dedication put into the projects was evident and the pride shone out of each student.

Thank you for a lovely retrospective.

Asian Cooking Master Chef Competition

There was tasting, judging and discussion at every table in the Asian Cooking room when this year's MasterChef competition kicked off. Six teams competed to create the most delicious Asian dish, and the standard was high all round.

However, it was the cool kids in the picture below who came out on top - and three big bags of Haribo. Their glass noodle dish impressed with lots of flavour and great detail.

Congratulations!

Efterskole DM in Basketball

Our cool basketball boys have recently participated in the Danish efterskole Basketball Championships, which this year was held at the BGI Academy.

They delivered a number of strong performances and played many great matches, but were unfortunately beaten in the quarter-finals. Both coach and players emphasise how great it was to play close matches and be challenged at a high level, where a Danish Championship title was at stake.

The team finished in 7th place nationally - congratulations!

Sailing in the sunshine

The new sailing students have only been on the fjord three times, but they are already well on their way! The weather has been in their favour and the wind has been perfect for a good start.

This week they have been working on sailing crosses at 90 degree angles to make the most of the wind in their sails at all times. This requires teamwork and good communication!

Duke of Edinburgh students on an outdoor camping trip

Our Duke of Edinburgh students at Ranum Efterskole College have been camping in the great outdoors, testing co-operation, navigation and the ability to fend for themselves in nature.

As a Duke student, you are part of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award - an internationally recognised development programme where students work with volunteering, physical activity, personal skills and outdoor expeditions. Ranum Efterskole College is the only efterskole in Denmark to offer the programme. The programme builds self-confidence, independence and perseverance as students work towards Bronze, Silver or Gold level.

One of the students, Aitana, had to make a film about the project as part of her Duke assignment - you can watch it below.

A trip with lots of learning, challenges and great experiences together

Headmaster's column

Dear reader,

April ended with beautiful, almost summery weather. May also brings back memories of Professor Plum in The Lost Spring. On Monday, the 9th grade students had their final exams and it's always a bit of a circus where many emotions come into play.

We realise that tests can put pressure on young people. At the same time, as adults, we know that tests and measurements are also part of being part of society - and not least the path towards education and a career. That's why we work purposefully with exam preparation in May and June, among other things with the help of experienced young coaches.

Tests create a certain “friction” in teenage freedom - and can be annoying, to put it nicely. Some parents find that their child wants to be exempt, but then they miss out on the experiences that can strengthen their belief in their own abilities - especially when it comes to secondary education. Therefore, we encourage you to stand together with your child to get through the exams rather than opting out. It's an important part of the educational journey.

At the same time, we do our best to ensure that the trial period also includes community and good experiences.

Finally, a quote from a much-loved teacher:
“Tests are the party of the well-prepared student.”

This weekend there is a music theme with roller disco around the tree of life, and next week we'll be visited by a theatre and music FGU school from Aarhus.

The following weekend, we organise New Student Day on Sunday - it will also be a party.

Have a great weekend

Yours sincerely
Olav Storm
Principal

Summer camps for all ages

If you are between 14-17 years old, this is a unique opportunity for you to socialise, develop new skills and try a lot of fun and challenging activities. It's all about community, experiences and memories for life.

New this year, we're also launching a Grandparents Camp. Here, grandparents and grandchildren can enjoy a week's stay together with good catering throughout the week, exciting excursions and fun activities for all ages.

We will visit the Limfjord Museum in Løgstør and take a historical trip to Livø. In addition, the week offers plenty of activities to enjoy together across generations.

We're looking forward to a summer filled with community and great experiences.
