10 Apr The herd is growing - meet our new kid goat
We're back after a lovely - and windy - Easter long weekend!
In this week's newsletter you can read about the Full Host students' Easter trip to Gothenburg in Sweden, meet our newborn kid goat and find out which sport could take home the trophy and the title of North Jutland champions to Ranum.
Happy reading!
Full Host students on Easter trip to Goteborg
For our Full Host students, Easter was a wonderful and eventful visit to Gothenburg in Sweden. The weather was chilly and rainy, but luckily the sun peeked out occasionally and gave the students some cosy moments in the city.
Storm Dave also added an unexpected twist to the trip - the ferry departures were cancelled, giving the students an extra day in Sweden. It also provided the perfect opportunity for Santiago to celebrate his birthday on Swedish soil with the whole group.
In addition to the city sights, students also had time to explore local cafés, shop and experience Gothenburg's vibrant atmosphere, making Easter a fun and memorable trip.

Meet our new goat kid
We've expanded the herd at Ranum Efterskole - and no, we're not talking about the students! Our goats had the cutest kids the Saturday before Easter Sunday.
This is exciting news for everyone, but especially for the students who have chosen the Greenfingers course - a course where you learn to look after animals and plants and utilise the raw materials you get from them.
You can hear more about the course from Johanne and Tobias in the video below.

Ranum wins Nordjyske Championships in Basketball
Victory for Ranum!
This year we have assembled a fantastic basketball team and they really showed their skills at this week's Nordjyske Mesterskaber in Haverslev. The team went undefeated in all five games and were able to take the title of Nordjyske Mester home to Ranum.
Congratulations - you guys are awesome!

Lunch was served in the spring sunshine
This week we had a large group of students from efterskoler in North Jutland visiting us. This meant that our students couldn't be in the dining hall for lunch - thankfully! The entire lunch was moved outside in the lovely sunshine, and potato salad, meatballs and juice were enjoyed in all corners of the school.

What does the future of efterskole look like?
This was the question posed by futurologist Henrik Good Hovgaard at the spring course organised by Ranum Efterskole this year. We gathered employees from all of North Jutland's efterskoler for a joint learning day, where they had the opportunity to spar with each other and learn from each other's different ways of doing things.
Henrik Hovgaard gave a deeper perspective on the upcoming school reform and how it will lift the ideas of student and teacher involvement and democracy in the subjects. This is a practice we have been working with at Ranum Efterskole for many years already, and one that we see great value in.
Having a democracy-based school requires both staff and, to a large extent, students to actively participate and engage.
Thank you all for visiting!

Bonfire cosiness in Ranumhus
On a beautiful spring evening in Ranumhus, a large group of students gathered around the fire to roast marshmallows. It's great to see how the students really seek each other out, and we can clearly see that the Cultural Journeys have strengthened the community and for many also expanded their circle of friends.
Unfortunately, there weren't enough marshmallows for all the students who suddenly turned up - but we'll take this as a good opportunity to repeat the success with another cosy bonfire night on another day.

King Winter is back!
You'd almost think that this picture was taken in January, when the snow lay like a thick blanket across Denmark - but it's far from it. Even though the week has seen double-digit plus degrees during the day, the weather decided to turn up the winter atmosphere again on Friday.
It's very cosy - but most of us hope it's only for a short while, so we can soon get out and use the outdoor areas again, play volleyball and football and relax in the hammocks outside the houses.

Around the world with Ranum on Culture and Family Day
Culture and Family Day is coming soon to efterskolen and we can't wait to see you all and share our exciting adventures and everything we've learnt. The day starts at 10:00 and you can see the rest of the programme below. Look forward to travelling the world with Ranum and experiencing everything from school visits and jungle exploration to working with the wild coral reef and dancing in Africa.
You can also enjoy a delicious lunch with your loved ones, try your luck in the raffle and be lucky enough to win some of the amazing prizes we've brought back from our travels. All proceeds go directly to our partner schools in the countries we visit.
See you on 19.04.26!

Headmaster's column
Dear reader,
It was a great Easter holiday, and even though the storm shook and ripped several tiles off our old tiled roofs, we made it through without any major damage. The students arrived to the most amazing spring weather and immediately all the lawns were alive. The students also came in for the last major choices of profile subjects and activity subjects. It's just a unique process that gives you both big dreams and a little stomach ache. There is a lot at stake, and many students have realised that there are not many weeks left in the school year. So this is the last chance to form new profile subject communities and go on an expedition.
This week we also organised a spring course for all employees at the North Jutland efterskoler. It was the first time we hosted this course, and it was great to see the many guests' reactions to the experience of our large school. We actually have more employees than there are students at many of the other schools. The day included an exciting presentation by futurist Henrik Good Hovgaard. His reference for the future of efterskole and the movement that the school form is facing, with greater involvement of students and staff in an increasingly changing society, was Ranum Efterskole College and our focus on forming meaningful communities through democratic election processes, which starts with students and staff having a say in the proposals for activities and goals. Great!
It also requires an incredible amount of work and dialogue to ensure this open process among the more than 500 young people and 100 employees, but it's all worth it when the outcome is more engagement, ownership and motivation among the many students who experience the joy of taking responsibility for using their freedom, learn to make their own conscious choices and dare to use their voice.
This weekend is “Friends Weekend”, and with over 500 young people at the school, there will be plenty of new friendships and lots of activity. The following weekend, Sunday is Culture and Family Day, where the many cultural teams present their travel experiences to their families. Afterwards, there is the opportunity to try efterskolelife for families in a range of activities.
Yours sincerely
Olav Storm
Principal
