The highlight of the week for our football-mad pupils was taking part in this year\u2019s North Jutland Championships in efterskole football. Sixty pupils set off for Aalborg by coach to compete against other efterskole teams from across North Jutland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Divers ready for their specialised subject trip<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Almost 180 pupils are getting ready for their upcoming subject-specific study trips to Egypt, Malta and Gozo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The students have been challenged both theoretically and physically throughout the programme, and we can look back with pride on a period characterised by a wealth of learning, development and commitment. We are now looking forward to following their continued development as they soon set off into the world and have the opportunity to put their knowledge and experience into practice. Next week, the students will receive their final piece of diving equipment \u2013 and then we\u2019ll be ready to set off and explore the world beneath the sea\u2019s surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The instructors are testing out new cameras and mounts \u2013 so do enjoy the underwater photos from Monday\u2019s dive in the swimming pool. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cultural studies process is in full swing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday, we kicked off the second part of the cultural studies programme, and it\u2019s abundantly clear that this really means something to the pupils!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is plenty of enthusiasm as the pupils move around the school, visit the various classrooms and learn more about subjects, countries and cultures. At the same time, the process sparks healthy reflection \u2013 both amongst individual pupils and in conversations between classmates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pupils are good at identifying the pros and cons of the various subjects, asking each other questions and gaining a better understanding of why a particular subject might be a good fit for them specifically. In fact, several have found that their third choice from the last round has now moved right up to first place \u2013 and vice versa. We see this as a very positive sign that pupils are open to the various subjects and are taking the time to consider what is the right choice for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next week, the pupils will enter the final round of the cultural subjects selection process. They will be voting for the last time, and this time it will be the decisive vote that determines which cultural subjects will be offered. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Concert with Emi Wide<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Everyone was invited when pop singer and songwriter Emi Wide turned up the music and transformed the assembly hall into a dance floor. Although Emi Wide is a Danish artist, her songs are in English, which suits our international student body very well. Both Danish and international pupils sang along as they learnt the choruses, and the music quickly became something that brought us together across languages and backgrounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s something really special when we can bring the whole school together for a joint event, where everyone lets their hair down, the music plays, and we can just have a right good time together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are delighted to open the Ranum Efterskole College Tea Salon<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It came as something of a pleasant surprise when, one day two weeks ago, four bright young lads turned up at the headmaster\u2019s office with an idea: they wanted a space for good conversations \u2013 and for anyone who enjoys a cup of tea. And it really is a brilliant idea! So the process got underway quickly, and this week we were finally able to open the doors to Ranum Efterskole College\u2019s Tea Salon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the years, efterskolen has received many gifts from countries where tea plays a significant role in the culture. It therefore seemed only natural to create a space dedicated to tea, where people can explore different tea traditions whilst enjoying a cup of tea in good company. The idea is simple: everyone is welcome to pop in, make themselves a cup of tea and sit down for a good chat with a friend \u2013 or perhaps meet someone they don\u2019t know very well yet. The support was overwhelming, and there was a queue of people waiting to get in and experience the atmosphere. In true Ranum style, the key to the room was handed over from the headteacher to the student group, after which the ribbon was cut and the space was officially opened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thank you to all of you who have donated lovely teacups, mugs and other items for the room; the result is both cosy and atmospheric. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

See you soon, Ash and Yannis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For nearly six weeks now, we have had the pleasure of having Ash and Yannis from the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe with us. They have attended school on an equal footing with all our other pupils, but in a very short space of time they have won everyone\u2019s hearts with their Caribbean charm. This week, they gave a presentation in the assembly hall about their home country. Among other things, we learnt about Guadeloupe\u2019s school system, food culture, carnival and all the other exciting things the island has to offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was particularly interesting for those pupils who had chosen Guadeloupe as the destination for their cultural studies trip. The presentation gave them a little insight into what they might experience for themselves when they set off for the Caribbean island later this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The whole session ended with a rhythmic session, where they really got the drums going, whilst the pupils helped keep the beat with vocal sounds. A festive and unusual end to an exciting trip to Guadeloupe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Sunday, the two young men are heading home, and although we\u2019ll miss them, we hope they\u2019ll return when they\u2019re a bit older \u2013 perhaps as volunteers at efterskolen, where we\u2019re lucky enough to have a couple of them every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
