We've been on an adventure again - this time around Denmark, with one exception: the football team travelled to Gothenburg. It also marked the last profile subject trips of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The week also included a thought-provoking lecture and advice from current students for the coming years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Full Host tour in Skagen<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For many, Pentecost offered cosy moments with family and friends. For our Full Host students from all over the world, who live at the school all year round, it was an adventurous excursion to the northernmost part of North Jutland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the weekend, the students visited R\u00e5bjerg Mile, Skagen, Grenen, Hirtshals and Det Bl\u00e5 Ishus in Tversted. Especially for our international readers who may not be familiar with the area, North Jutland is something very special and in many people's opinion one of the most beautiful places in Denmark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Grenen, the Kattegat and the North Sea meet and you can stand with one foot in each sea. R\u00e5bjerg Mile is also a unique natural experience - a travelling sand dune with an impressive desert-like landscape. It is one of the few of its kind in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enough about that - you just have to experience it when you're in these parts of Denmark! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Profile subject excursions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The week has offered exciting profile subject trips around large parts of Jutland. Among other things, sailing has been to Liv\u00f8, the surf teams have visited both Hvide Sande and Klitm\u00f8ller, the media team has been to Aarhus, padel has travelled to Mors, and Animal Life has explored several different nature sites in North Jutland, including a visit to Aalborg Zoo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It sounds like all teams have had a fantastic few days filled with experiences, camaraderie and plenty of opportunities to put the learning from efterskolen into practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ronnie's racing life <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Friday was a thought-provoking and powerful day when Ronni Mogensen visited the banqueting hall with his personal talk about a life in the fast lane characterised by violence, drugs and alcohol abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ronni grew up with an abusive father, which led him to leave home early on and seek out other communities. School was an escape from everyday life at home, but school was not where Ronni found himself most comfortable. He preferred hard physical labour and sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On a study trip to Amsterdam, he and some friends bought drugs to take home, and that was the start of many years of hard drugs, wild parties and violence in the nightlife. One night it all went wrong. Ronni and a friend crashed their car and lost control under the influence of drugs. The accident left Ronni paralysed from the waist down and he has to live with the consequences for the rest of his life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few years later, life changed direction when his niece was born. Meeting that little innocent child was a turning point that made him see life in a new way. Today, Ronni works with young people in after-school clubs and travels around the country with his talk to share his story and create reflection in other young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was amazing to feel the students' engagement around his story. Rarely has the auditorium been so quiet during a presentation, and there were many questions long after the lecture was over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Racing simulator<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As something brand new, we have installed a simulator in the main building! Here, students can try their hand at flying a helicopter and get behind the wheel in various driving simulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We realise that the simulator is first and foremost fun and entertaining, but as Ronni Mogensen says, it also provides food for thought. Perhaps the simulator can help create a greater understanding of traffic rules, responsibility and the importance of safety before our students one day take to the roads with a driving licence in hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Advice from our international students <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Soon the school year will be over and new students are on their way to Ranum. Therefore, on Friday, the international students did an exercise where they debated in groups the most important points and tips for a efterskole year at Ranum Efterskole College.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were many good reflections on the table, which were eventually compiled into 12 concrete tips that you can hear in the video below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Feel free to share them with everyone you know - they are not only relevant for international learners, but for anyone considering a 1TP5 year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
