We've been well spread out this week! A group of students have been visiting primary schools and telling us about their exciting trip to South Korea, while another group has been in the Netherlands on a school visit to our friendship school. At the same time, others have been on full-day trips - either in the forest or to the exciting Regan Vest museum in Rold Skov.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week you can also read about Sophie, who puts into words what it's like to attend Ranum Efterskole - both the challenging days and the ones you never forget. A story to inspire the new year of students, who we look forward to meeting on New Student Day on 10 May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amsterdam tour <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This week, a group of our students travelled to the Netherlands - a trip that marks the culmination of several weeks of collaboration with our Dutch twinning school. Before leaving, we had already had a visit from the Dutch students here in Denmark as part of our joint cultural programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon arrival in the Netherlands, the students were warmly welcomed by their host families, giving them an authentic and intimate experience of everyday Dutch life. The days were spent on school visits and Erasmus cooperation, combined with sightseeing in the beautiful sunshine among colourful tulip fields and along the cosy canals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the footsteps of war - day trip to Regan West <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

History has a way of repeating itself, and with the world order we see today, it is clear that we are once again witnessing a time when world history is being written in real time - with new conflicts, strained diplomatic relations and changing borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Derfor har vores hold i historie og samfundsfag sl\u00e5et sig sammen om en f\u00e6lles dagstur til museet Regan Vest. Eleverne deltog blandt andet i et dilemmaspil, hvor de skulle forestille sig, at de var regeringen under Den Kolde Krig og diskutere forskellige politiske dilemmaer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Det blev en sp\u00e6ndende og tankev\u00e6kkende dag i Den Kolde Krigs fodspor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Science day with compass and map<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At the same time as the visit to Regan Vest, the natural science teams have been in the forest to do orienteering with map and compass. It was a cosy - and for most of them cold - day, but fortunately there was the opportunity to warm up by the fire and enjoy roasted marshmallows with marshmallow biscuits.

Cosy evening in Ranumhus<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The weather hasn't been the most welcoming this week. With fog, rain and cold temperatures, it has instead invited extra cosiness indoors in the evenings. At Ranumhus, it was a cosy fruit evening with hot chocolate, board games and knitting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visit to N\u00f8rholm school<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday, the South Korea team visited N\u00f8rholm School, where they taught students from 2nd-6th grade. They showed videos from their trip and spoke passionately about their experiences in South Korea - including what it's like to be a student in the country, what it was like to spend a day in a Buddhist temple, and about their visit to the South Korean parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Afterwards, they taught the N\u00f8rholm students some games that they themselves had learnt from South Korean students. The day was rounded off with the Ranum students introducing them to making gimbap - a traditional Korean dish similar to sushi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was an educational and enjoyable afternoon for young and old alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We can't wait to meet the upcoming class of 26\/27 - and luckily it's just around the corner! Soon we will be organising New Students' Day, where we will have the opportunity to get to know each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It will be a fun day with fun activities and an insight into all the exciting things you can look forward to after the summer holidays. If you're curious about what a efterskole\u00e5r can look like, how the community can develop if you give it space, or what can be a little challenging along the way, then read on below. Around the world with Ranum on Culture and Family Day<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Culture and Family Day is coming soon to efterskolen and we can't wait to see you all and share our exciting adventures and everything we've learnt. The day starts at 10:00 and you can see the rest of the programme below. Look forward to travelling the world with Ranum and experiencing everything from school visits and jungle exploration to working with the wild coral reef and dancing in Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can also enjoy a delicious lunch with your loved ones, try your luck in the raffle and be lucky enough to win some of the amazing prizes we've brought back from our travels. All proceeds go directly to our partner schools in the countries we visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Headmaster's column<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dear reader,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As spring makes everything sprout and grow, students are also emerging into new versions of themselves. The new activity classes on Tuesdays have started, and next week the new profile classes start. This time the choice was short and sweet, with less time for second thoughts and uncertainty. Many students have followed their gut instinct and plunged into subjects they may not have thought they could - or had the courage to choose. Many have chosen water sports activities and sports. At the same time, two boys have managed to revive Hardball as a subject after more than 10 years. They have repaired the old airsoft guns themselves and invested in new ones and safety equipment worth over DKK 30,000. It's a great pleasure to see the commitment - and that it has now gathered 21 students around role-playing, strategy and physical skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This weekend we are hosting Culture and Family Day, where more than 600 family members will come on Sunday to hear about the students' cultural studies experiences and then get a taste of efterskolelivet. We also inaugurate our new professional barista room, where over 60 students have wanted to immerse themselves in barista culture, the world of coffee and beans from different parts of the world - inspired by their cultural studies trips. The students serve barista coffee in the Bistro after the presentations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The international oral exams are in full swing. The tests are recorded and sent for assessment in England, which provides a different and more serious set-up than we know from the Danish system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Socially, spring is also noticeable. More students emerge and find new communities and activities, while some of the autumn and winter groups are more introverted and have to find their place in new social dynamics. Both boys and girls navigate formal and informal hierarchies - often on social media - that can be difficult for us adults to recognise. We are in ongoing dialogue with parents of students who experience pressure in these movements, and this openness makes it easier to support positive and inclusive communities where the individual student can stand strong outside of group norms and pressure of expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, it's a challenge when private parties are organised for selected students. It affects not only free time at home, but also the school community. Therefore, we encourage parents to be cautious about giving permission for such events - at least this year - as open and inclusive communities are crucial both for the individual student and for the whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the assembly on Thursday, the project class unveiled one of the big names for this year's final Dream Festival: the band \u201dOut of Control\u201d, which was very well received by the students. This was great news after an assembly where we had also touched on topics such as international tensions and current events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This coming week, Friday 23 April, Ranum Efterskole College turns 22 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are between 14-17 years old, this is a unique opportunity for you to socialise, develop new skills and try a lot of fun and challenging activities. It's all about community, experiences and memories for life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New this year, we're also launching a Grandparents Camp. Here, grandparents and grandchildren can enjoy a week's stay together with good catering throughout the week, exciting excursions and fun activities for all ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will visit the Limfjord Museum in L\u00f8gst\u00f8r and take a historical trip to Liv\u00f8. In addition, the week offers plenty of activities to enjoy together across generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We're looking forward to a summer filled with community and great experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
