We're back home after an absolutely fantastic week where around 500 students travelled to St\u00f6ten in Sweden and Prague in the Czech Republic. Both journeys have offered wild experiences!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sweden Ski<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The snow has been falling all week in Sweden - luckily for us, as the pre-Christmas weather forecasts didn't look very promising with heavy plus degrees. Fortunately, the freezing temperatures arrived and although we could by no means complain about the snow and weather conditions, it has been really cold. The first few days saw temperatures between -13 and -15 degrees combined with a very fresh wind. Despite this, the students have held up fantastically well and we see a general development in everyone's snowboarding and skiing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All students have attended ski or snowboard school every day from 09:00-11:30 and again from 13:00-15:00. It's been a great way to get to know the area and to learn new skills from each other. Once again, it's been inspiring to hear so many different languages on the slopes - from Spanish and English to Thai - and there was no doubt that Ranum was clearly present on the slopes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the evenings there have been plenty of opportunities to use the swimming pool, spa and bowling, or go for a walk in the ski resort area. On Wednesday evening, students could also get outside in the snow and make pancakes over a campfire for dessert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vast majority of the students have shown great dedication when it comes to room assignments, shopping, cooking and teaching on the slopes - although you parents at home might hear your youngsters say they've had a lot of frozen pizzas for either lunch, dinner or both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prague City Tour<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, 59 students and four teachers headed in the opposite direction, travelling south to Prague in the Czech Republic. An inspiring and educational cultural week awaited them, with a special focus on European history, the communist era and the atrocities that took place during the Second World War.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the second day in Prague, the students visited our twinning school, Arcibiskupske Gymn\u00e1zium<\/em>. The visit provided a unique opportunity to exchange perspectives across borders and form new friendships. Presentations were given at the school and friendship gifts were exchanged to symbolise the international community. In the evening, the students travelled to the ice hockey stadium for a game with the local team - an intense experience with a great atmosphere and high engagement both on and off the ice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The third day offered even more history with a powerful and thought-provoking visit to the former concentration camp Theresienstadt. A visit that gave the students a very concrete insight into the horrors of war and left a deep impression. Our guides, Helge and Pavlo, who also guided us around Prague on the first day, conveyed the history with great insight and presence. In the evening, the group gathered for a great meal at a local Czech restaurant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last day in Prague was dedicated to the city's most iconic landmarks with a visit to the impressive Prague Castle and a walk across the historic Charles Bridge. Founded way back in 880, the castle today is a fascinating journey through several eras, especially the Renaissance. The elevated location provided a magnificent view of the Old Town and was a beautiful end to an eventful and memorable tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now we're ready to start everyday life again at Ranum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Happy and prosperous new year<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The students of Fuldt Host had an eventful end to the month of December. First, Christmas was celebrated in the traditional Danish way with cosiness, fellowship and singing around the Christmas tree. Then they went on a New Year's trip to Germany, where the students visited the beautiful castle in Schwerin and the cosy city of L\u00fcbeck. On New Year's Day itself, all the students had the opportunity to try their hand at ice skating, and in the evening they celebrated with various New Year traditions. Among other things, everyone wore funny hats as part of a Danish tradition, and at midnight everyone ate 12 grapes according to Mexican custom. The first day of the new year 2026 was spent enjoying hot chocolate and delicious cake. Later, everyone went for a walk in the rain, which was replaced by a snowstorm just a few days later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Headmaster's column<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dear reader,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Christmas and New Year holidays are now well and truly over, and the students are on their way home from their trips to Sweden (skiing) and Prague (city tour). We have all experienced frost and snow, but the students have been tough and persevered. In Prague, the students have been learning about the history of the persecution of the Jews, World War II and the communist occupation, and have had various cultural experiences, including a visit to a friendship school, an ice hockey final at the O2 World Cup Stadium and the Black Light Theatre. During the ski trip in Sweden, students were taught in teams and enjoyed skiing, snowboarding and cooking in the cabins. The students have made new friendships and strengthened existing relationships. However, a bunch of tired students return on Friday afternoon. On Monday we start again - ready for the next period leading up to the cultural trips in March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
