Canada Culture and School Exchange<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Introduction<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A unique opportunity to spend a week as a pupil at a Canadian international day and boarding school and learn about Canadian culture and heritage. We will be visiting our partner school, Unisus, which is beautifully situated in the valley around Summerland \u2013 surrounded by mountains, lakes and orchards. We\u2019ll be staying at the school, following the daily timetable and taking part in various activities alongside the Canadian pupils \u2013 both at school and outside school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re combining our exchange experience with exploring other parts of Canada, such as Vancouver and Vancouver Island \u2013 a bit like a road trip, with the chance to seek out different experiences depending on the group\u2019s interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019d like to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1) experience everyday life at a Canadian international boarding school, have a go at playing for their hockey team or try your hand at snow sports alongside their students \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2) wish to learn about and experience Canadian history and cultural heritage \u2013 and how this shapes modern society \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3) will experience winter lifestyles with snow-capped mountain ranges, valleys and lakes, and will be thrilled to spot a bald eagle (to name but a few examples\u2026)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lessons<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In our teaching, we will work with different knowledge areas and competence goals that can be divided into 4 main areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The concept of culture and cultural self-understanding \u2013 including intercultural competences<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Knowledge relating to a specific country \u2013 including its history, geography, politics and cultural aspects<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Practical and mental preparation for the trip<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Follow-up on the trip \u2013 including that pupils should expect to produce a documentary video about the trip and be able to reflect on their learning experiences<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, we will be working on a joint project on sustainability \u2013 focusing on the green transition, with Denmark and Canada as case studies. The trip itself will include activities where pupils either work together on a joint project or take part in off-site activities centred on this very topic. We have decided that UN Sustainable Development Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) will form the basis for our joint projects and the thematic framework for several of the activities we will be working on \u2013 including understanding how a small community in a somewhat remote Canadian valley must also give due consideration to, and possibly take a stance on, its future and a more sustainable path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
